"Fin de Partie" in Valencia

Finally, Markus Stenz is back on the conductor’s stand for an opera after a long break due to the Corona pandemic.
He will conduct the Spanish premiere of Kurtágs only opera “Fin de Partie”, which bases on the play “Endgame” by Samuel Beckett.
In this opera, four people live in a house by the sea, in social isolation. Their difficult and exasperating life together obliges them to face their manias, fears and insecurities, with the hope of finding a way out, a future, from their claustrophobic situation. Old Hamm, who is confined to a wheelchair, is obliged to support his irritating parents, Nagg and Nell, each without legs and trapped in a dustbin. The servant Clov, who is incapable of sitting down, is sick of the burden of looking after the three of them.

Markus Stenz also led the world premiere of this opera at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy and the Dutch premiere in Amsterdam. “Fin de Partie”.
