3rd ACT - THE PROGRAMMING SECRET
at the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne
Whenever Markus Stenz conducts the Gürzenich Orchestra in concert, he adds on a so-called 'Third Act'. This complement to the concert at the end of the published programme is not announced beforehand; the secret is only revealed in the concert hall.
The 'Third Act' is intended to encourage the audience's curiosity and enjoyment at discovering new aspects of classical music: something old and unknown, something entirely new, something familiar in a new context, an unexpected comment or a quirky contrast to the regular programme. Frequently the hall is also involved in an unusual way, or a particular atmosphere may be created by means of special lighting.
At the exit the visitor is handed a leaflet with additional information about the composer and the work performed in the 'Third Act'.
